This Review Course offers development professionals an opportunity to review the main components of a complete fundraising program.  It is a two-day, intensive program that provides an overview of skills, techniques, and program components based on fundraising experience at the five-year level. Whether or not you plan to take the CFRE exam, these best practices will benefit your career.

Who should attend? The course was developed for intermediate-level fundraising professionals who want a comprehensive overview of fundraising principles, at a step above the fundamental level.  Its content is organized around the CFRE exam domains: Current and Prospective Donor Research, Securing the Gift, Relationship Building, Volunteer Involvement, Management, and Accountability.  Participants engage in fundraising problem-solving with top-notch professionals and network with fundraising peers.

The AFP CFRE Review Course consists of nine modules covered over a two-day period. The course is presented through lecture, case studies, and the encouragement of participant dialogue.  Each registrant will receive a participant manual which is very helpful when studying for the CFRE exam. The modules include:

  • Module I:  Why Philanthropy? An Overview of Fundraising & Its Concepts
  • Module II:  Current & Prospective Donor Research
  • Module III: Marketing and Communications for Fundraising & Development
  • Module IV:  Developing a Comprehensive Solicitation Program
  • Module V:  Building and Sustaining Relationships
  • Module VI: Securing the Gift
  • Module VII:  Volunteer Involvement
  • Module VIII:  Management
  • Module IX:  Accountability
  • Appendix: Supplemental materials, including test taking tips and sample test questions

The AFP CFRE Review Course is designed for fundraising professionals with 5 or more years of experience.  This may include executive directors, vice presidents of development, program managers and special event coordinators for local nonprofits and foundations and staff members of university development offices. Individuals are not required to take the CFRE Certification Exam after the course; nor is the Review Course a prerequisite for taking the CFRE Exam.
